Under the hood
Chessora AI
Chessora AI is the single opponent behind every game on this site — there's no matchmaking, no other players, just you against it. Here's what that actually means in practice.
One engine, three personalities
Beginner, Master, and Grandmaster aren't separate products — they're the same underlying engine, deliberately tuned to play at very different strengths. Beginner makes real mistakes on purpose. Master plays soundly but isn't unbeatable. Grandmaster is the engine with nothing held back.
Why it doesn't feel like a chatbot
Chessora AI doesn't explain its reasoning, chat, or offer hints — it just plays chess, the way an opponent across a real board would. That's deliberate. The product is a board and an opponent, not an assistant.
How strength is measured here
Rather than publishing a specific Elo number for each difficulty, Chessora tracks something more honest: your own win rate against each one. An 80% win rate on Beginner and a 15% win rate on Grandmaster describe your actual experience far better than a single borrowed rating number would.
Curious what makes Grandmaster different?
It's covered in detail on its own page — including what it actually takes to beat it.
