Engine strength in Grandmaster
Three levels. One goal.
No unlockable tiers, no hidden difficulty curve. Pick a level and the engine plays exactly at that strength from move one.
Beginner
Learn the board without getting punished for it.
A forgiving opponent tuned for players still learning how pieces work together. Good for warming up, or for a first game ever.
Master
Every loose move gets found.
Strong enough to punish real mistakes, patient enough to be beatable if you play a clean game. This is where most club players belong.
Grandmaster
Stockfish, at full strength. No handicaps.
Nothing is dialed back here. If you win at this level, it's because you actually outplayed one of the strongest chess engines in the world.
How it works
1
Pick a difficulty
Beginner, Master, or Grandmaster — no ranks to unlock first.
2
Play the game out
The board is the whole product. No chat, no timers ticking down for no reason.
3
See the result
Win, lose, or draw — the outcome and the move count are logged immediately.
4
Watch your record move
Your win rate updates per difficulty, so improvement is visible, not assumed.
Why Chessora, and not another chess app
A real engine, not a scripted bot
Chessora runs Stockfish itself — the same engine top players use to prep and analyze. Grandmaster mode isn't a marketing label; it's the engine's actual strength, unrestrained.
Nothing to get in your way
No friends list, no chat, no clubs, no fifteen game modes to choose between. One board, one opponent, three difficulties. That's the entire product.
It thinks in your browser, not a data center
Stockfish runs client-side via WebAssembly in a dedicated Web Worker. Moves come back fast because there's no round trip to a server calculating them.
A record that actually means something
Every game is logged by difficulty. An 82% win rate on Beginner and a 12% win rate on Grandmaster tell you exactly where you stand — no vague overall score hiding the gap.
Under the hood
The engine runs on your device, not ours
Chessora compiles Stockfish to WebAssembly and runs it inside a dedicated Web Worker in your browser. That means the interface never freezes while the engine is calculating, moves come back without a network round trip, and Grandmaster mode can search as deeply as your device allows — not as deeply as a shared server can afford.
01 Browser loads chess.js for rules, legality, and game state
02 Stockfish (WASM) spins up in a Web Worker on first move
03 Position is sent to the worker, main thread stays responsive
04 Engine returns its move, board updates, no server involved

Every game sharpens the record.
Your dashboard breaks win rate down by difficulty instead of burying it in one overall number. An 82% win rate against Beginner and a 20% win rate against Grandmaster aren't the same skill level — Chessora shows you both.
Questions people actually ask
Is Grandmaster mode really full-strength Stockfish?+
Yes. Beginner and Master are deliberately weakened so they're beatable. Grandmaster runs Stockfish at or near its maximum playing strength — nothing is held back.
Do I need an account to play?+
No. You can play as a guest right away. You'll get two free games a day; creating an account just lets you keep a permanent record and unlock Premium for unlimited games.
Does Chessora work on mobile?+
Yes. The board is built to fit any screen without horizontal scrolling, and it's fully playable with touch.
Why does the engine run in my browser instead of on a server?+
Stockfish compiled to WebAssembly runs locally, in a Web Worker, so your moves are answered without waiting on a network round trip — and it keeps the game playable even if your connection drops mid-game.
What does Premium actually unlock?+
Unlimited games per day. Free accounts get two completed games daily; Premium removes that limit entirely.
Is there a rating system like chess.com or Lichess?+
Not currently. Chessora tracks your win rate per difficulty instead of an Elo number — the goal is beating each level, not chasing a rating.
